Autumn is probably the favourite season of mine, because it is a polite transition between the two extremes: the uber hot Summer and the harsh Winter. Autumn includes enough hot days, ideal to prolong your tan and enough cool, rainy days ideal to set you up in cozy mode and motivate you to unpack your winter gardrobe.
Somewhere between the two extremes, designers release their new collections and seasonal trends. Today, lets have a look at which make up trends the Houses suggest, for Autumn 2011 and Winter 2012.
Red kisses
Christian Dior
Either in dark berry, or classic red, or having orange undertones, red this season is hot hot hot! This year, red lips will be worn with light eye make up in earthy tones for a business-appropriate look or deeper metallic tones for a hard-to-forget party look. To achieve the Christian Dior look, you can use Make up Forever’s Aqua pot in no 2 which is a metallic dirty grey or Chanel’s Crayon Yeux in Khaki Platine no 70 which is an amazing metallic grey with green undertones pencil AND limited edition. Apply the product all over your eye and lower lashline, blending well the edges at socket. Make sure you will apply on upper and lower lashlines a dark gunmetal matte eyeshadow such as Mac’s Print or Typographic to create some depth. Use Diva by Mac lipstick or no 08 Stylo Couture lipstick by Prestige.
Gucci
To achieve the Gucci look, apart from a perfect canvas, you basically need a warm yellowed light brown eyeshadow, a mascara, a classic red lipstick and a drop of clear gloss. I totally recommend Texture eyeshadow by Mac, which is an orange based camel brown and goes well with all the skintones or if you are a bit tanned or you have yellow undertones, try Patina eyeshadow again by Mac, which is a light golden taupe, ideal to accompany red lipsticks. You can find both here. Then, apply tones of mascara and then aply your red lipstick. While at Guerlain, I discovered my ALL TIME FAVOURITE red lipctick which is Rouge Automatique Vega no125. A true, dark, scarlet red lipstick. Another lipstick which is worthtrying, is Guerlain’s Rouge G in Scarlet no 25 and will be launched in stores after few days. This lipstick will be a part of the 2011 Holiday’s Collection “Belle de Nuit”. It is a true red colour ( lighter than Vega), with a creamy texture.
Ralph Lauren
To achieve Ralph Lauren’s red lips, you need a bright red-orange lipstick and a good lip pencil to ensure that your lipstick will not “bleed” thoughout the time you wear it and to prolong its wear. To begin with, makes sure you warm up your skin with a touch of bronzer, wherever the sun normally hits your face. Bronzer will not only give you a healthy radiance, but will also make red colour pop. Next, grrom your eyebrows and fill the gaps or even them with a colour similar to your natural hair. Brows will be the frame for the nude eyes. Then apply your lip pencil and lipstick very carefully; you want your lips to be perfect, as they will draw the attention! For your lipstick you may choose between So chaud by Mac, which is a matte finish or Rouge G Geisha no 23 by Guerlain, which is creamier.
Orange/Pink stroke of colour
Armani Prive
Hot coral, fuchsia, orange… No, do not get confused and wear bikinis! The current trend orders us to dare, to be bold, to be progressive. The trend goes perfectly with monochromatic clothes, such as total black and total greys. Armani’s look is pretty hard to wear, unless you are 17 years old, the Trendsetter of your highschool and a vibrant bee… So the younger you are, the brighter your eyeshadow can be. That is why I included 4 different pictures, through which the trend degrades from brighter, to quieter. In any case, the skin should be kept fresh and light, avoiding excessive amount of foundation and powder, which will make it look cakey and heavy. Professional make up artist and editor of beautysauce.com Carly Musleh reviewed and recreated the Trend in a fantastic way. Check her video here.
If you wish to go for the Armani look, you may choose between Neo-Orange or Electric Coral (found only in Pro Stores), both by Mac. To achieve the smoky liner use a matte grey eye shadow such as Anthracite by Make up forever. Smoke it with an angled brush, which will give you full control and blend with a small pencil brush such. If you wish to be more adventurous with your make up, you can also do a banana style, adding a white line between the flicks of upper and lower lashlines, with a small angled brush and white eyeshadow.
